Phishing
Definition: Phising- “'Phishing' is a form of Internet fraud that aims to steal valuable information such as credit cards, social security numbers, user IDs and passwords. A fake website is created that is similar to that of a legitimate organisation, typically a financial institution such as a bank or insurance company. An email is sent requesting that the recipient access the fake website (which will usually be a replica of a trusted site) and enter their personal details, including security access codes." -www.digitalstrategy.govt.nz/templates/Page____60.aspx
I recently received a phishy email. Normally I just delete them without opening them... but I was curious this time. It was one of the standard "Here is your order #" for something you've obviously never ordered (do those really work? Do people forget what they do/don't buy online and they think, "hey I must of forgotten that I bought something from 'products.com' I better go check it out"? I mean, really...). I read through it quickly, as it was very short. THEN- at the bottom of the email (where some people put "signatures" [AKA funny sayings that tend to annoy after the 3rd or 4th consecutive email]) it said this:
It is more shameful to distrust our friends than to be deceived by them.
Virtuous people often revenge themselves for the constraints to which they submit by the boredom which they inspire.
The superior man is modest in his speech, but exceeds in his actions.
If I am walking with two other men, each of them will serve as my teacher. I will pick out the good points of the one and imitate them, and the bad points of the other and correct them in myself.
To know what is right and not to do it is the worst cowardice.
